Meditation: Mindful Awareness & Kindness

Mindfulness Meditation calms the nervous system and strengthens the mind. It reduces stress and brings the practitioner back to remembrance of the peace within. Our Center offers group classes and private instruction, group practice sessions (sittings), and retreats for both beginners and experienced meditators. Mindful Awareness & Kindness Program: Introductory Meditation Course

The practice of Mindfulness in Awareness (Meditation) can help you focus and calm the mind, reduce stress, and experience well-being. This course meets weekly either 5 weeks for 1-hour classes, or 6 weeks for 45-minute classes; each week's class includes instruction, guided practice time, and discussion. This experience enables students to practice mindfulness meditation regularly at home. After completing the course, you will also have the option of attending our monthly group meditation sittings and quarterly retreats.

Mindful Awareness & Kindness Program for School Teachers

We now offer an introductory meditation course designed especially for school teachers. NEW SESSIONS BEGIN IN MARCH. Choose either: Mondays at 7:15-8:00 pm, starting MARCH 13; or Wednesdays at 4:45-5:45 pm, starting MARCH 15. Learn to quiet the mind, reduce stress, and deepen resilience through Mindfulness Meditation practice. Meditation helps us create a Pause before we act, which enables us not to be overwhelmed and provides a way to connect instead with inner calm, creativity and patience. With this practice, we can spontaneously model mindful living for our students. Each week's class includes instruction, guided practice time, and discussion. We offer a follow-up workshop for those who have completed this course and wish to present mindfulness techniques adapted for students in classroom settings.

Additional Levels of Instruction in Mindful Awareness & Kindness

A preparation course is offered for each level of practice, with optional group practice sessions, based on techniques presented in that course, as follow-up. Please contact the Center for more information or to reserve space in the course.

Meditation Classes on THE BHAGAVAD GITA

Our next YOGA-VEDANTA CLASS on the Bhagavad Gita, presented by SHELLEY SMITH, will meet on Friday, March 3 at 6:00-7:30 pm. The class is part of Ms. Smith's on-going Psychodynamic Yoga series. This course is designed for those who have completed our introductory Meditation Course, Mindfulness in Awareness. Please contact us for more information.

Mindfulness Meditation Training for Children and Families

Learning to meditate can help children build confidence and reduce stress. This program presents creative ways for children to center themselves, focus attention and connect harmoniously with life. Our Family Meditation Classes offer simple yoga and meditation techniques as a wonderful way for children and their parents to participate together, learning mind-body awareness skills that can be helpful to all. These classes are available by appointment; please contact the Center for more information.

Sleep Yoga Sessions

Private Sleep Yoga meditation sessions with Shelley Smith, our Center's Founder, are available by appointment. These sessions are based on Ms. Smith's "Dream Awakening" techniques for Awareness Training. Completion of our Meditation Starter Course is the recommended prerequisite. Behavioral Modification Approaches

Psychodynamic Meditation/Yoga Workshops and Retreats

Increase understanding and acceptance of yourself and others through Psychodynamic Meditation and Yoga training. Learn how the power of presence aids us in taking responsibility for and transforming our habitual patterns and mechanical reactions. Shelley Smith, Founder and Director of the Center, offers Psychodynamic Meditation & Yoga Retreats several times a year, as well as monthly or bi-monthly classes in Yoga-Vedanta, with commentary and meditations on the Bhagavad Gita. Dream Work

Experience the healing capacity of your creative mind through Dream Work. Dream Work is an effective method of unlocking the energy of dreams and gaining insight into yourself. Prior experience in meditation practice is helpful. Dream Work sessions are facilitated by Shelley Smith, Founder and Director of the Yoga Meditation & Therapy Center.
